My new home - Reykjavik

Reykjavik - the country's largest city and the worlds most northerly capital. Population: around 177'000 Vikings. Reykjavik means "smoky bay", so named by the first settler in the 9th century because of steam rising from geothermal hot springs. This geothermal energy is utilised to provide economical, non-polluting heating - hence Reykjavik is one of the cleanest cities in the western world.

There are 2 landmarks in Reykjavik. One being the Hallgrimskirkja that can be seen from every spot in the city and Perlan. Perlan - "the pearl" is basically nothing else than a warm water reservoir. Inside you find a expensive restaurant on a moving platform.
The University of Iceland is a state university and was founded in 1911. It is situated in the heart of Reykjavik and hosts about 700 exchange students.
