Osar and surroundings

Around Vatsnes are some natural and cultural things worth looking at. A nice lighthouse built in the classic style (not like others around Iceland). Then there is Thingeyrar, the first monastery founded by Jón Ögmundarson in 1112. Later in that century it became Iceland's greatest library, where monks wrote, compiled and copied histories and sagas.
