19th August, Drangajökull
11% of the country are covered with glaciers. Drangajökull (jökull means glacier in Icelandic) is the fifth largest and the northern most glacier. The road to that glacier was not really something for our car. While the other jeep-tourists could drive up to the "official" parking lot. We had to leave our Subaru some few hundres meters behind as we could not pass a river as the other big jeeps. But we saw the glacier nevertheless :o)
Later that day as we were looking for our camping we realized that not only did we not have any food for the day and the day after but also was our tank empty. Between fjords and mountains there was nothing where to get petrol from. We started to get rather worried as we did not even have cell phone reception. Saturday evening after 8pm - where are we gonna find a petrol station and a shop?
Miracles happen! At the small settlement of Sudavik (very shortly before our car would have given up on no petrol) we found a petrol pump and a open shop!
